On December 12, Mike Posner posted this shot with the caption "Katy Perry is so cool." Is that because she agreed to be his special guest on New Year's?

Things are hopefully erring on the verbally vicious side of things for Ludacris and Mike Posner’s Red Bull Soundclash event happening New Year’s Eve at Bayfront Park in Miami.

In a four-round musical battle royale, the two artists will each hustle hard to outdo each other. In general, it feels like the audience for the free event will end up with a victory. Although we had initially predicted that Posner could bring out Lil Wayne as a musical guest to deliver a “Bow Chicka Wow Wow” knockout punch for the final round, maybe he’ll opt for his pal Katy Perry.

We’re already predicting an over-caffeinated draw, but Posner seems to think he has an advantage in this showdown. Read our Q&A with the strapping young R&B star below.

County Grind: Have you ever been in a fight? And what was the outcome?

Mike Posner: I got my ass kicked pretty bad when I was in high school. No one’s taken any shots at me since.

What type of a competitor are you?

I’m a terribly sore loser. I’ve been known to punt basketballs after 4 on 4 losses.

What are you most worried about in your clash with Ludacris? What should he be most worried about right now?

Luda is an amazing performer. I’m honored to be doing this show with him. I had the opportunity to see him play in Australia last year. He did an hour of straight singles. I feel like I can rap better than he can sing though. We shall see.

What sort of extra training have you done to prepare for this event?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Bone Thugs. I’m gonna be rapping a lot of fast ass Luda verses with melody. It’s gonna be ill.

How many Red Bulls are you going to drink over the course of the event, and how will that affect your performance?

Somewhere in between one and five. That will probably coincide with the number of time I stage dive.

Red Bull Soundclash is a totally unique clash of sounds, styles and creativity, where two bands don’t battle each other, but instead collaborate to create an innovative live music performance. The show features two bands with different music styles facing off on two stages positioned on opposite ends of the venue with the audience in the middle. In a series of four rounds, the bands perform various tasks, some rehearsed, and some improvised, to showcase the array of their musical abilities.

On New Year’s Eve, Miami’s Bayfront Park will be THE destination for music lovers as Red Bull Soundclash presents an incomparable live music showcase featuring a first-time ever match up between Ludacris and Mike Posner. The pre-show festivities begin at 7:00 p.m.. The main show begins at 9 p.m. and will culminate with a fireworks display and official countdown to the New Year. General admission is free and open to the public. A limited number of VIP upgrades are available for purchase.

Break It Down

The Red Bull Soundclash format takes each band through a series of collaborative challenges that makes it less of a battle and more of a musical conversation.

• 1st Round: The Cover – Each band plays their own version of the same cover song.
• 2nd Round: The Takeover – A collaborative round where one band will start to play one of their original tunes and mid-way through the other band takes over, seamlessly finishing the song in their own style
• 3rd Round: The Clash – This will challenge the band’s versatility as they’ll have to adapt their songs to whatever music genre the DJ is spinning
• 4th Round: The Wild Card – Each act brings a special guest on stage to join their performance.

Meet the Players

Known from the streets to the big screen, Ludacris is a star on multiple fronts – a Grammy Award winning hip-hop artist, movie star and once upon a time a radio DJ. Bringing comedy and entertainment to his rhymes has landed Ludacris onto the Top 10 Billboard’s Hot 100 several times and with celebrity collaborations such as 50 Cent, Mariah Carey, Busta Rhymes and Eminem- Making his second Red Bull Soundclash appearance in the Dirty South, Luda is sure to put on a quite a show.

Mike Posner is a modern day triple threat – singer, songwriter and producer – hailing from ethnically and economically diverse Detroit suburb of Southfield, MI. His eclectic, crafted collection of soulful tunes blended with hip-hop showcases an authentic artist motivated by life experiences. Posner is relatable and ready to accept the Red Bull Soundclash challenge.
